Gone are the days where you had to rely on public transport or a friend when you had to go some place quick or reach on time as the airport, marriages and functions, etc. In Indian cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi getting a cab to the airport might not be a problem and cities like Kolkata and Mumbai we have cheap taxi cab services to navigate around the city.
But sometimes, we still do need a reliable cab service that have a good fare pricing and on-time service. And with so many people already using smartphones like Android and iPhone, it is more efficient if you can book a cab from your smartphone app. We have reviewed the best cab services in India, which have Android, iPhone apps as well making it easy for you to book a taxi cab online within minutes.
Best Taxi, Cab Services in India with Online Booking Apps for Android, iPhone with GPS Tracking
I have always felt that local cab drivers can be rude if you don’t know the local language and sometimes ill-mannered in some parts of India. However, here are the best cab booking services in India that will blow you away with the level of professionalism in the cab service they provide at a touch of a button.
1. UBER – Cheapest Cab Service in India with Best Service
Cities: Ahmedabad, Ajmer, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Colombo, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Mangalore, Mumbai, Mysore, Nagpur, Nashik, New-delhi, Pune, Surat, Thiruvananthapuram, Udaipur, Vadodara, Visakhapatnam…
Uber is a genius smartphone app for the iPhone and Android that has revolutionized cab booking in India. Uber utilizes your smartphone’s GPS to identify your area and provides you options to the nearest available driver. When you request for a ride on your app, they will send the nearest driver to pick your up. No need to keep checking your phone as you will get a message you when your ride arrives. Your driver’s name and car information show up in the application, and you can also message or call if needed. You can also cancel at a nominal fee.
How to Book Uber Cab Online?
It is a complete cashless service, since when you sign up, you can provide PAYTM wallet details. The app also shows you the fare estimate if you enter the destination while booking the cab. The cheapest is UberGO which still is a high-quality sedan. In case, you have more than four passengers like six passengers you can request UberSUV, which gets you a 6-seater SUV car like Innova etc.
My personal experience with UBER has been fantastic. I have used it both in Hyderabad and Kolkata. The drivers are extremely courteous and well-mannered. Moreover, since there is no hassle of payments the journey is extremely pleasant. Moreover, there is always some offer going on where I have saved much money by booking a UBER cab instead of other cabs.
UBER drivers are trained to meet Uber’s norms and also meet your expectations, and in most cases UBER drivers will exceed your expectations. This is because, after your ride, you can rate your experience and leave comments about your driver. All of this at a cheaper prices than regular cabs. Drivers have a strict code of conduct where they wish you, open the door for your, take care of your luggage and set the music to your preference making you feel pampered.

The only downside is you cannot book a cab in advance (in India) for, e.g., If you need an early morning cab to the airport, you need to search in the app for a nearby cab 10-15 minutes prior to leaving your house which might be risky if you don’t have a backup plan and if no cabs are available in the Uber app at that moment. It is also an app only mobile internet dependent cab booking service.
Update: Now you UBER lets you pay for rides with cash, and you can also book Uber cab online at m.uber.com. They also improved security and driver background checks for a better cab riding experience after facing lot of negative criticism after a rape incident in Uber cab in Delhi. Now all Uber cabs display a security clearance certificate from local police.
*How to Book Uber Cab in Advance?
While it is not affiliated or officially endorsed by Uber, the new app called TimeTravel allows you to pre-book a Uber ride for the future event you want, and you can schedule trips up to one week in the future. It can also be used for the same day, so if you think you will be going someplace later, you can use TimeTravel to request a ride as soon as your work is scheduled to end
2. OLA Cabs – Book Cabs Online in India: Advance Booking, InterCity
Cities: Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Pune, Chennai, Goa, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Indore, Lucknow, Surat, Amritsar, Visakhapatnam, Ludhiana, Nashik, Coimbatore, Nagpur
OLA cabs have the potential to give serious competition to UBER. However, they still have a long way to go. Compared to UBER, which is an app only cab booking service, OLA cab provides you the option to book cabs online from your PC or Laptop, and you can pre-book cabs to your pre-set location. For booking within 1hr of your journey, you need to switch to their smartphone app to book a cab taxi near to your location.
Just like UBER, OLA cabs don’t own cabs but act as a middle man trying to get you the best service, and since they are started from India, they are well equipped in dealing with Indian problems. Overall they do a pretty good job of finding you the best cab suited to your needs. It is more like the redBus for cabs.

Personally, I have not tested their cab booking app, but I have heard from my friends that the experience is genuine. However, again, it is no match to UBER’s drivers who follow specific rules that improve the overall experience. OLA cabs are regular cabs with local cab drivers and they do not have a strict code of conduct. So you might face those rude drivers now and then. However, then when the primary goal is to reach your destination then OLA cabs can trust since it is an Indian service and you can always get in touch with their customer support to resolve an issue or to arrange for substitute cab bookings.
3. TaxiForSure – New, Quick and Easy Cab Booking
Cities: Ahmedabad, Aurangabad, Bangalore, Baroda, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mysore, Nashik, Pune, Rajkot, Surat …
Similar to OLA, TaxiForSure is a marketplace where you can book cabs from different taxi vendors that are partnered with them. They are preferred for booking a taxi to the airport, go sightseeing around the city, or hire a premium cab for a birthday or weddings. According to user reviews, people like the prompt service from them and fair pricing and billing. This is important since many times we have faced situations where I had to hassle with the driver with the amount to pay. Some ask for tips while others charge extra unnecessarily blaming the customer for cooked up reasons.
► Get the App: taxiforsure.com
However, TaxiForSure drivers/ chauffeurs are uniformed, well behaved and well experienced thus making your journey a pleasant one. They also guarantee transparency in billing structure so that you pay only for the travelled distance (measured by GPS tracking in the car) and no extra charges. One guarantee using TaxiForSure is you do not have to worry about last minutes cancellations from the cab company. They will always provide some alternative.
4. Meru – Most Popular Cab Service in India
Cities: Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Vadodara, Surat, Pune, Kolkata, Chandigarh
Well MERU cabs are well known and probably the oldest in the business of Radio Cabs and Taxis. They are great when you book their cabs over the phone and via their online portal. However, I do have bad experiences with them twice, so I avoid them. So, they recently started the location-based app booking of their vast fleet of cabs. Along with that, they also have a smaller and cheaper cabs called, “Genie” which is integrated into their app.
► Get the App: merucabs.com/mobile
They have an easy to use cab booking interface on their website and in the smartphone app they seem to have taken ideas from Uber’s app. However, there are many complaints with missed reservations, rude drivers and last minute cancellations which does make it an unreliable cab service. Moreover, the fare pricing is not that great, its expensive compared to the ones reviewed above. However, you can give it a try.
Regarding safety for girls travelling alone in cabs, it is always a good idea to share the driver and car details with close friends once the booking is confirmed (forward the confirmation SMS) and have a look at the route on Google maps if your are not sure about it. There are some specialty cabs like She Cabs in Hyderabad and Priyadarshini Taxi Service in Mumbai, which cater only to women having women drivers thus making them safe.
There are many other cab services that could have been mentioned here, but none of them have a good enough service rating or reviews from users. Personally, I would recommend only UBER and OLA cabs since they know and care enough to satisfy customer needs. If you have a great cab service in your city, let us know in comments.
